Magical Volunteerism

Magical Volunteerism is the belief that it is within every individual’s power to make themselves whatever they want to be. This thinking can be observed as the dominant ideology and unofficial religion of contemporary capitalist society. Instead of a disciplinary society that tells us no, the post-industrial west tells us yes, encouraging us to consume, to post and retweet, to become a better version of ourselves, and to find freedom through capital.

This type of freedom demands that we always be productive. We have to always be working to improve ourselves, which means we that we treat the self like an investment rather than a self, and that, we can never stop improving.
